Please tell us about your degree and what you are studying.
I first started attending APU in 2020 where I started my prerequisite classes for the nursing program. I was then accepted into the nursing program and started last fall. I am now preparing to graduate with an associate’s degree in nursing this December.
Why did you choose APU?
I chose APU because I knew I would be familiar with the atmosphere that APU has. APU also provides a small and personalized learning environment that is beneficial to my success. I have the ability to build relationships with my peers, instructors, and the college faculty which is . I come from a small knit community here in Alaska, and I also attended Mt. Edgecumbe High School – so I knew a smaller community-based college was right for me.
What was your favorite aspect of studying at APU?
I love that I am able to build a close and positive relationship with my classmates and instructors which is beneficial to my success as a student. I also love how small the campus is and how accessible it is to get in touch with students and staff.
Reflecting on your time at APU, what stands out as the most memorable or impactful part of your campus life or learning experience?
I was not a typical student, I lived off campus with my family. My nursing cohort and faculty members were great to work with and were the most memorable part of my journey.
What are your post-graduation plans?
After graduation, I plan on continuing my NCLEX preparation and hopefully passing the NCLEX. Once I have completed my licensure exam, I look forward to working with ANMC on a Medsurg unit. I also plan on coming back to APU for the BSN program.
Is there anything else you would like to add?
I would really like to express my gratitude and appreciation to the nursing faculty and my classmates, because truly I do not think I could have made it this far without their support and encouragement throughout the nursing program. I would also like to thank the agencies who have made it possible for me to complete the nursing program without any financial worries. APU is a wonderful school, and I would recommend it to anyone who is interested.
