Overview
The Ed Stauber and Robert Pfiel Endowed Athletic Ski Scholarship was endowed through the union of the Robert Pfiel Athletic Scholarship and the Ed Stauber Ski Scholarship. The fund honors the lives of Ed Stauber and Bob Pfiel in scholarships to APU’s athletes.
Ed Stauber
Ed Stauber graduated from AMU in 1971 with a degree in physical education and English. During his freshman year, he became a member of the newly formed AMU ski team, which competed nationally in both alpine and Nordic ski events. After graduation, Ed began a lifetime of service to both his community and country, for which he was honored and respected. He served in the Air Force Reserves in the office of Special Investigations from 1971 until 2001. In 1977 he began his career with the Alaska State Troopers where he served as a highly respected investigator (receiving many awards) until his retirement in 1997. In addition, he had a special passion for underprivileged and handicapped children that was visibly demonstrated through his committed volunteerism to the Special Olympics.
Robert “Bob” Pfiel
In 1986, following Bob’s passing, over 100 of his close friends donated funds to establish an endowment at APU in his honor. When establishing the fund, Bob’s wife hoped that his memory would live on in the athletes that were supported through his endowment fund.
