This summer, the Municipality of Anchorage Project Management and Engineering Department will be doing an emergency replacement of the culvert for Chester Creek under Northern Lights Boulevard between UAA Drive and Career Center Drive.
You may remember some temporary closures of Northern Lights Blvd in December 2019 when the collapsing culvert was identified and a temporary solution was installed. This project will be a permanent solution, so that the culvert doesn’t continue to collapse. The project will require a 30-day full closure of Northern Lights Boulevard so that Chester Creek can be diverted while the culvert is replaced. Currently, the 30-day closure is anticipated to last from early July to early August.
The municipality will keep the project website updated with additional information as it is available. Please look to the project website or APU updates on our social media channels.

- FULL CLOSURE Providence Dr. btwn. UAA Dr. & Spirit Dr. (PM&E/Roger Hickel) – Monday, 6/1 @ 8PM – Tuesday, 6/2 @ 6AM
- FULL CLOSURE E. Northern Lights Blvd. btwn. Muldoon Rd. & Augustine (AWWU/Frawner) – Thursday, 6/4 – Thursday, 6/18. (Once reopened, intermittent lane restrictions are expected)
- UAA Dr. btwn. Alumni Dr. and Widgeon Ln. (ML&P) – Friday, 6/5 @ 8PM – Monday, 6/8 @ 6AM
