• M.S. Environmental Studies, University of Helsinki
Born and raised in Finland, Eeva feels very much at home in the high latitude of Alaska, appreciating every day spent either on the mountains or on the foothills. After attending graduate school for a year in Western Washington University, Bellingham, WA, she fell in love with the mountains and made her home in the U.S. She gained meaningful work experience with NOLS as a climbing and mountaineering instructor in the North Cascades, the Coast Mountains, and in the Rockies, while calling Washington and Colorado her home before landing in the last frontier.
Eeva brings her enthusiasm of snow and winter recreation to the Outdoor Studies Department. Students call her “Eeva Loves To Ski.” With a background in ski patrolling and backcountry skiing, she has focused in maintaining and developing a strong snow curriculum at APU. She also teaches rock climbing and mountaineering courses. Her biggest achievement at APU is the recognition as the Teacher of the Year in 2007-08.
Eeva’s other interests include trail running, especially wicked long distances, orienteering, mountain biking, yoga, and good strong coffee. Her family includes husband Jaime and two energetic border collies, Tuuli and Sisu. With all her spare time, Eeva is training Sisu to become an avalanche rescue dog.
