PhD, COI, RN Edmond J. Safra Visiting Nurse Scholar at the Parkinson’s Disease Foundation
Dr Droutman graduated from Northeastern University in Boston, Massachusetts in 1988 with a BSN in Nursing. After graduation, she began her nursing career at a large medical center in Boston, on an Orthopedic/Medical Surgical Unit. She continued her nursing career in a variety of settings, med/surg, head trauma, telemetry, mental health with young adults and adolescents focusing on eating disorders, geriatrics as a Nurse Manager on a skilled unit, and Nursing Supervisor of a 300-bed facility for 10 years. Diane’s role as supervisor included precepting new employees and educating staff.
She enjoyed teaching and accepted a nursing instructor position in 2003. Diane completed a master’s in nursing science and master’s in education in 2008. As a classroom, lab, and clinical instructor, she is able to draw from her many years of experience to help educate future nurses.
In 2010, she began teaching undergraduate courses online. She earned a Teaching and Learning in Web-based Courses Certificate and is currently a Certified Online Instructor. Her love for facilitating online learning grew. She started teaching graduate level nursing courses, and then developed and taught four courses for Healthcare Administration in a Business Master’s Program.
In 2020, Dr Droutman completed her dissertation defense on A Correlational Study of Nursing Instructor Use of Best Practice with Multiple Choice Questions. She is active in the National League for Nursing and served as an ambassador for many years. She was inducted into the Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing as a doctoral student, is an Edmond J. Safra Visiting Nurse Scholar at the Parkinson’s Disease Foundation, a Gallup Successful Strengths Coach, and a member of The National Society of Leadership and Success.
Her passion in education is mentoring and helping students develop study skills to be successful in nursing programs.
