Hello! My name is Cheryl Ongtowasruk (UNG-too-WAZH-ruck). I am the Senior Admissions Counselor for Health Programs at Alaska Pacific University. I have been part of the APU admissions team for over three years and am passionate about helping students—especially those pursuing careers in healthcare—navigate the admissions process.
I am Inuit and grew up on the Seward Peninsula in northwestern Alaska. Traditionally, I am from the Kiŋikmiut (“people of the high place”) and Iġaluiŋmiut (“fish river people”). My family lived in Nome for most of my late childhood. I earned a Master of Arts in Education and am currently pursuing a Doctorate in Educational Leadership for Social Justice. My work focuses on increasing access to higher education through helping others understand the admissions processes and building strong connections with communities.
If you have any questions about the admissions process or need assistance, please feel free to reach out—I’d be more than happy to help!
