I am an assistant professor of Business Administration, Health Occupations, and Health Sciences at Alaska Pacific University. Since beginning my teaching career in 2018, I have guided and coached students through senior projects and healthcare management courses, gaining unique insights into how students tackle the learning process. Through my various classes, I have observed students become overwhelmed by the demanding workload and have made it my mission to help them navigate these challenges more effectively.
As a third-generation educator, my passion for lifelong learning was born from my own lived experiences. Navigating a spectrum of supportive to less-than-ideal professors during my first undergraduate degree, I learned valuable lessons about the kind of educator I aspired to be. The exceptional professors inspired my teaching style, while the less supportive ones taught me the importance of empathy, patience, and guidance in a learning environment.
Embodying these lessons, I now thrive in Alaska Pacific University’s experiential education model. This model embraces various teaching styles to cater to a wide range of learning styles. I find immense satisfaction in the breakthrough moments when struggling students connect the dots and demonstrate their newfound knowledge at the end of a semester.
My teaching philosophy is shaped by my belief that learning is a journey, not a destination. Through my work, I aim to create an environment where students feel supported, challenged, and excited about their learning experiences. I encourage students to view learning as an enriching lifelong process rather than a mere obligation.
Currently based in Anchorage, Alaska, my approach to teaching is not only shaped by my personal experiences and professional insights but also influenced by the unique cultural and geographic context of Alaska. I firmly believe that learning should be a rewarding experience and endeavor to guide my students to overcome obstacles and embrace the joy of knowledge.
Outside of the classroom, I enjoy exploring the beautiful landscapes of Alaska on foot or from the backseat of a Supercub. I continue to learn, evolve, and adapt in my quest to be an empowering and supportive educator.
