- M.S. Outdoor and Environmental Education, Alaska Pacific University
- B.A. English Literature; Minor Environmental Studies, University of Wisconsin-Madison
I have been a part of Alaska Pacific University’s Kellogg Campus for many years and in many iterations. As a graduate student in the Outdoor and Environmental Education program, I learned valuable skills in curriculum design, created a foundation for teaching environmental ed. in outdoor spaces through learning theory, and experienced first-hand on-the-job training through internships and practicums. Providing education to future educators through my adjunct position in the MSOEE program has been a great way to stay involved while focusing on my growing family. Now, my children are enrolled in the programs I learned from and taught for in other capacities. The cycle has come full circle!
It is an honor to now serve the campus and community as the Youth Agriculture Education Coordinator. Through this role, I have the opportunity to share this beautiful campus and the work done here with the wider community. Through partnerships with local schools, tribal entities, extension offices and individuals, we are able to provide experiences for youth in the Mat-Su valley and beyond to connect with their local food systems, explore professional and recreational opportunities in agriculture, and learn how to become part of our state’s vision of food security and sovereignty. I am passionate about experiential education, and my personal goal is to be a part of increasing diversity, equity and inclusion in the broader fields of sustainable and culturally responsive agriculture which will ultimately lead to a healthier community for people, plants, animals and our unique Alaskan ecological systems.
In my spare time, I love to hike, ski, paddle board, dance, prepare meals with friends and family, find a quiet (and preferably mosquito-free) spot to sit in the woods, write poetry, advocate for a more just world, and wander aimlessly.
