DEEP learning is the primary theme that runs throughout my blog. It results from active learning in small learning communities doing applied interdisciplinary research on real world projects. In my ideal educational world every class would engage the student in this manner. Thus, when I received the following letter, I was as happy as a University President can be. And when these same students shared their work in person at our APU Board meeting, I had to keep reminding myself that college sophomores were doing this scientific work, not graduate students.

I also wanted remind those that follow my blog that the Alaska Pacific University Board of Trustees, The Denali Society, APU students and I are hosting a Gala event to recognize and welcome new APU sponsors. The evening will include wines from the Gilliam collection, dinner and entertainment and the opportunity to support the university via a live and silent auction featuring unique experiences and unusual items. Hope to see you there!
