Financial Aid Application Timeline

The financial aid application process is one that occurs over several months throughout the year. Please access the calendar below to help guide you through.

Timeframe	Tasks to complete
October	File your FAFSA for the upcoming school year and be sure to list APU on your FAFSA. APU’s school code is 001061 and the FAFSA is available on October 1. AK Residents should complete their FAFSA immediately in order to potentially qualify for ACPE’s Grant.  Grants are awarded to eligible applicants in order of highest financial need until all available funds are exhausted. December	Begin searching for outside scholarships for the upcoming year. Click Here for additional resources & the APU One Application
January	Incoming students should start receiving a financial aid award offers.
March	All paid students whose FAFSA was selected for verification review, will also receive a verification request by email. Please return all required items within 30 days.
April	AK Residents: If you did not yet file your FAFSA, make sure it is filed before the end of the month to avoid potentially missing out on ACPE funding.
June	Complete Direct Loan requirements: Entrance Counseling (EC) and a Master Promissory Note (MPN). See award letter for details. Click Here to complete your MPN. Click Here to complete EC. Forward copies of outside scholarship notifications to the Financial Aid Office.
July	If needed, apply for additional loan (Direct PLUS Loan for a parent or Private Loan) to cover expenses not covered by awarded aid. Most Private loans take approximately 4-5 weeks to completely process. Click Here for apply for a PLUS Loan for Parents Click Here for State of Alaska Loans
August	Assure that all financial aid requirements are complete for the start of the fall semester by reviewing the fall semester bill online. Billing information can be located via myAPU under the “Student Accounts” tab.

Office Processing and Turn Around Times:

Federal Verification: 5 to 15 days from last document submission

Special Circumstance: 10 to 20 days from last document submission

Alternative / Private Loan Processing: 5 to 10 days from Bank Approval Date

Award Status: 5 to 10 days after FAFSA is submitted and student is in an accepted status.

Satisfactory Academic Progress Appeal: 10 to 20 days once complete SAP Appeal File is submitted
