It’s that time of year again. The annual Fur Rondy Winter Festival is here in Anchorage, and is going on all through this week. This internationally known Anchorage festival started all the way back in the year 1935, before Alaska was even considered a state. Back then; Fur Rondy was a three-day sports tournament that would correspond with the return of the trappers and miners to Anchorage. The entire community would come out to watch sports like skiing, hockey, and even children’s sled dog races.
Now a day, people come from all over to join in on the festivities in Fur Rondy with a 10-day celebration that includes Running of the Reindeer, Rondy Carnival, a Grand Parade, and much more! Campus Life took APU students out this past Saturday to enjoy some of the lively festivities.
Fur Rondy will be going on all through this week across the city of Anchorage. To learn more about Fur Rondy, visit the official website
