Discover Active Learning
APU is offering a Shallow Water Lifeguard Course, which includes First Aid and CPR for a Professional Rescuer and how to operate an AED in the event of a water related cardiac arrest or breathing emergency. We will use a blended learning format, which includes about 7 hours of online content the lifeguard candidate needs to complete before the start of the class, and read and answer the chapter review questions in the lifeguard manual. Then the class meets for 4 days. Total length of the class is 26 hours which includes the online content. Lifeguard candidates need to pass a swim test consisting of a 100 yard continuous swim (Front Crawl & Breast Stroke), a timed brick retrieval and a 2 minute tread without the use of the hands. Participate in all skill sessions, final skill scenarios and a 2-part multiple choice exam, resulting in at least 80% score.
