Please join the Cardinal Newman Chair of Catholic Theology for a presentation by Dr. David Echelbarger, Associate Professor of Philosophy at the University of Mary in Bismarck, ND, on cultivating a habit of leisure, an activity in sharp contrast with binge-watching shows or endless scrolling on one’s phone and the cynicism and apathy that can result from such habits. Drawing from St. Thomas Aquinas’s thought on the capital vices, Professor Echelbarger will articulate the essential characteristics of apathy, its deleterious effects, the place of leisure in overcoming this bad habit, and how professors, parents and others can help young adults to develop lives with leisure.
This presentation is in Carr-Gottstein Hall, Room 221 and is being livestreamed at https://us06web.zoom.us/j/84720319125?pwd=1uFvacEfiGEIxqyiEidc54RdGcdNrh.1 .
