on June 10th, the APU Nordic Ski Center Elite Team will be skiing a total of 1,000 Kilometers in 1 day to promote safety on the trails and roads of Anchorage while rollerskiing! In order to reach the 1,000 Kilometers, the team is asking our community for support to achieve pledges to meet our goal.
Each pledge of $50 = 1 Kilometer skied. Donations will be tallied before the Skiathon in hopes that we reach our goal. Contribute here.
The Skiathon will allow our Elite Athletes to gain support for the team and to bring awareness about safety on the trails and roads of Anchorage while living an active and healthy lifestyle. It’s a day to remind drivers that summer is rollerskiing season. It’s important to recognize and be aware of rollerskiers on the road and to drive cautiously when approaching.
Trail awareness and visibility is equally as important. Each Elite Team member will be wearing proper safety gear, high visibility clothing, helmets and other gear to showcase recommended protection in staying safe. Recommendations on rollerski safety rules and tips can be found here.
For the 1,000 Kilometers, the Elite Team will be showing proper COVID-19 social distancing. This Skiathon will mark the first time the elite team is officially back together following COVID-19 restrictions and mandates, as well as a team member, Hannah Halvorsen, who was a part from the team from being hit by a car last Fall. Hannah will be adjusting her form of meeting the Kilometers due to rehabilitation. Watch Hannah’s story here on KTUU.

We appreciate your support and look forward to promoting this day of safety as a team and community.
Stay tuned for the route and day of logistics to cheer the team on.
