Arctic Entries, a monthly story-telling series that invites Alaskans to share their tales onstage, has received the Governor’s Award for Distinguished Service to the Community. The series, which started in spring of 2010, has seen numerous members of the APU community on it’s stage, including:
- Roman Dial
- Carl Tobin
- Chris Pavadore
- Lynn Paulsen
- Mike Baker
- Rachel Dunbar
- Paul Twardock
- Nick Jenkins
- Dave Onofrychuck
- Erik Redding
- Caitlin Poindester
- Rebekah Arnold
- Dave McGivern
- Shane Castle
Originally, the event began in Cyranos, before moving to the Snow Goose for a few seasons, before finally settling at the Performing Arts Center. Now in it’s ninth season, the shows usually sells out of the 700 seats in the Discovery Theatre within 15 minutes of sales. Since it’s inception, Arctic Entries has brought over 600 storytellers to the stage and has raised almost $170,000 for local nonprofits serving the community in powerful ways. Representatives from their Board (which includes Professor David Onofrychuk) will officially be presented with the award in Juneau in February.
