A seascape scale habitat model to support management of fishing impacts on benthic ecosystems
Members of APU’s Fisheries, Aquatic Science & Technology (FAST) Lab, along with collaborators at NOAA and Cornell University recently published a paper in the Canadian Journal of Fisheries and Aquatic Science about a new model to assess habitat impacts from commercial fishing. The model has been adopted by federally managed fisheries in Alaska and New England for use in their habitat assessments. The FAST Lab along with the Cornell collaborators are now working on taking the model global, looking how much of the world’s marine habitats are impacted to produce the seafood we all enjoy.
