Rolkerski Awareness Day took place on June 1, 2023. The event is dedicated to APU Nordic Elite Athletes, aiming to increase awareness about rollerskiing and promoting safety measures on the trails and roads of Anchorage. The event encourages an active and healthy lifestyle while reminding drivers to remain vigilant and exercise caution around roller skiers.
Rollerskiing, a popular sport and training exercise among cross-country skiers during the summer months in Alaska, often shares common roadways with vehicle traffic. This makes trail awareness and visibility critical for skiers and drivers alike. To highlight the importance of safety gear, participating skiers will be outfitted in high-visibility clothing, helmets, and other protective equipment. For comprehensive recommendations on rollerski safety rules and tips, visit the APU Nordic Ski Center website.
The APU Nordic Ski Center will also utilize this event to spotlight the “Be Safe Be Seen” initiative. Originating from Colaska, this program emphasizes visibility on trails and roads to reduce accidents and injuries. By being aware and ensuring visibility, we can collectively make our roads safer for everyone.
