New Student Orientation – Day 1

Congratulations and Welcome to APU! We strongly encourage all new students to attend Orientation from Thursday, August 19 to Sunday, August 22. Whether you are living on-campus or are a new student living in or near Anchorage, we would love to have you join us for the in-person Orientation. We look forward to seeing everyone and welcoming you into the APU community.

9:00 am – 5:00 pm
Residence Halls Open – Move in Day
Atwood Center Lobby, 1^st Floor
Check-in, meet your RAs, and move into your new room. Tours and activities will be available throughout the day.

9:00 am – 11:00 am – Placement Testing
Academic Support Center, Atwood Center, 2^nd Floor
This is an opportunity for new students to take the math or writing placement tests if they have not done so already.

11:30 am – 1:00 pm – Lunch
McMillen Student Center, Atwood Center, 2^nd Floor
New students, families, staff and faculty are invited to enjoy free lunch provided by the Dean of Students Office.

12:00 pm – 12:45 pm – Expedition Alaska Information Session
McMillen Student Center, Atwood Center, 2^nd Floor
Enjoy lunch and learn about the Yukon River. Hear student stories from past adventures and ask the Trip Leaders questions.

2:00 pm – 3:00 pm – Advising Suite Open House
Advising Suite Rm. 222, Grant Hall, 2^nd Floor
Stop by the Advising Suite to meet the Academic Advisors and the Career Services Coordinator. This team can offer helpful guidance for success through your college career so come prepared with discussion questions. Snacks will be provided.

3:00 pm – 4:00 pm – Meet-n-Greet
Student Leadership Center, Atwood Center, 1^st Floor
The Associated Students of APU (ASAPU) is our student body government here on campus. Come hang out and learn about all the opportunities to get more involved on campus including open leadership positions and how to start a club!

4:00 pm – 5:00 pm – Free time
Time to settle into your dorm room, walk to University Lake with friends, or go on a tour of the Consortium Library. *Tour group will leave Atwood Center at 4:00 pm.

5:30 pm – 7:00 pm – Salmon Barbeque
Atwood Center Courtyard
New students, families, staff and faculty are invited to enjoy free dinner. 

7:00 pm – 8:00 pm – All-Hall Meeting
McMillen Student Center, Atwood Center, 2^nd Floor
This is a mandatory meeting for all students living on campus.

8:30 pm – 9:30 pm – S’more Fun and Games
Atwood Center Side Lawn
Come enjoy a relaxing night with your fellow classmates to learn more about the APU community. We will be making s’mores and playing games with lots of prizes to win!
