We are sad to share with you the passing of Dr. Charlie Fahl, trustee emeritus, environmental science professor emeritus, and former academic dean at APU.
Charlie’s specialty was meteorology, specifically air quality studies and climatology studies. He joined APU in 1982, leading courses in physics, mathematics, and environmental studies. He served as the university’s academic dean – a role now filled by the provost – from 1995 until his retirement in 2004, and served as a trustee from 2007-2014.
During his career at APU, Charlie developed curriculum, mentored hundreds of students plus many faculty, and shaped the university’s academic experience. Charlie was an avid skier and outdoorsman and supported the APU Nordic program in its early days. His legacy and influence still benefit students today, notably in the graduate program in environmental science, which Charlie helped design.
