Overview
The Cook Inlet Region, Incorporated (CIRI) is one of twelve land-based Alaska Native regional corporations created by the Alaska Native Claims Settlement Act of 1971. CIRI is owned by more than 9,100 shareholders and is Southcentral Alaska’s largest private landowner with approximately 1.3 million acres of subsurface land. Their Alaska Native Shareholders are of Athabascan, Southeast Indian, Inupiat, Yup’ik, Alutiiq/Suspiaq and Aleut/Unangax descent.
In 2000, CIRI established an endowed scholarship to allow CIRI shareholders to pursue higher education at APU.
