Renovations to the Earl R. Brown Auditorium on the Alaska Pacific University campus enter a next phase with safety and energy upgrades planned for the green room.
A $25,000 grant provided by Anchorage-based Rasmuson Foundation will fund new stairs and lighting for added safety backstage.
Work is scheduled to begin in the fall semester. The grant was awarded August 18.
“The APU theater attracts hundreds of performers and audience members every year,” said Steven Hunt, APU conferencing and events coordinator. “Audiences and performers alike value the theater’s intimate size and high-quality acoustics.”
Improvements to the green room, a backstage area used by performers, are part of the University’s ongoing efforts to restore the 210-seat theater. Renovation began in 2005 and includes fundraising for new sound, lighting and stage systems, among other projects.
