Counseling & Wellness Center
APU offers the Counseling and Wellness Center (CWC) as a confidential and safe place for students, staff, and faculty to discuss topics such as:
- support in making cognitive and behavioral changes
- exploring emotional distress, family dynamics, and relationship challenges
- goal setting and managing academic anxiety and stress
- developing greater self-awareness, mindfulness practices, and nervous system regulation strategies
The CWC adheres to the standards of confidentiality as set forth by counseling ethics and Alaska state law. Students under the age of 18 require parent or guardian permission. Though the CWC does not offer psychiatric or nursing services, the CWC offers a variety of community referrals as requested or deemed appropriate. The CWC offers a strengths-based and supportive environment for clients to receive counseling.
The Counseling and Wellness Center is staffed by two Masters of Science in Counseling Psychology graduate students who are supervised by a Licensed Professional Counselor.
Availability and scheduling with the CWC Graduate Student Counselors changes every semester. We recommend reaching out to them directly via email, phone call, or text message.
