Bicycling at APU
Alaska Pacific University promotes bicycling to encourage healthy, active, and sustainable lifestyles for students, faculty, and staff.
Bicycling Commuting Options
Trails: Our APU trails link up to the Anchorage municipality trails. Use the Anchorage trail system to go to down town Anchorage, the Westchester Lagoon, the Coastal Trail, Kincaid Park, Far North Bicentennial Park, and many others Anchorage parks and areas! The Anchorage trail system covers 10,000 acres, 190 parks all connected by 400 miles of trails.
Please avoid earthen trails during muddy, soft, ground conditions. In Alaska during the melt out season this means staying off the unpaved trails until April or even June. In the winter only use the multi use trails and stay off of ski only trails as they are groomed specifically for skiers. You can rent classic or skate skis at the Outdoor Programs equipment rental room located in the Atwood Basement.
Bike and Ride: Did you know that your APU ID card is also a bus pass? APU students, faculty, and staff can ride any Anchorage bus for free! When riding the bus you can take your bike along too, including fat bikes! If unsure how to load you bike on the bus’s bike rack just ask the driver to show you how. Bus route 10 stops at the APU sign every 15 minutes between 6 a.m. and 7:30 p.m. on weekdays, and continues until 11:30 p.m. at a reduced schedule. Here is some more information about the Anchorage bus routes.
Bike Racks: There are bike racks at all of the APU buildings on campus. Grant Hall, Carr Gottstein, and Atwood also offer covered bike racks. Need a bike lock? Pick one up at the APU Bookstore!
Shower Facilities: After your commute Staff, Faculty, and Students can all shower for free either at the Moseley Sports Center or at the locker rooms located in the Atwood Basement next to the Fitness Center.
