Dave Onofrychuk grew up in Edmonton, Alberta and came to Alaska in 2005 on a teaching assistantship with the MFA in Creative Writing program at the University of Alaska Anchorage. Since 2010, he has taught at Alaska Pacific University, where he currently serves as Associate Professor of Creative Writing and Composition and founding director of APU’s MFA in Creative Writing. In addition to teaching the fiction and nonfiction workshops for the BA in Creative and Professional Writing, he also co-leads the annual travel course abroad in January and has planned trips to Iceland, Norway, Sweden, Finland, Estonia, Denmark, and Japan. His work has appeared in Stoneboat Journal, and Fifth Wednesday Journal, where it was nominated for a Pushcart Prize. These days, he’s grown fond of writing flash, appearing often on beer cans in Blindman Brewing’s Session Stories series since 2019. When he’s not teaching, writing, or traveling, you can probably find him cheering on another goal by the Edmonton Oilers or lamenting the fate of his latest sumo fantasy league team. He lives in Anchorage with his wife and two sons.
