![]() University InformationThe APU CampusThe Alaska Pacific University campus in Anchorage is one of the most beautiful campuses in the United States, a serene and natural jewel set in the heart of a modern city, with the ever-changing Chugach Mountains rising up behind nearly 200 acres of lawns, woods, and University Lake. Moose are frequently seen on the campus in all seasons, as are a wide variety of other Alaska animals and birds. The three miles of campus trails lead bikers, hikers, in-line skaters, skiers, and runners into an extensive regional trail system which stretches from the ocean waters of Cook Inlet, throughout the city, and into the mountains to the east. True wilderness is only half an hour away, but just minutes away are research libraries, a symphony, an opera company, many live performances, coffeehouses, and a wide variety of excellent restaurants. The campus is a world unto itself, with no through roads and has an atmosphere appropriate to the dynamic, student centered, personal style of education for which the University is known. See below for brief descriptions: (A) Grant Hall - Information Services, Liberal Studies, Business Administration, and Environmental Science Departments, Classrooms, the President's Office, Academic Dean's Office, Business Office, Registrar's Office, Financial Aid, Human Resources, Development and Alumni, Information Technology, APU Journal, Math Lab, Geographic Information System(GIS) lab, Science Laboratories, a small art gallery, music practice rooms, and the university theatre with its revolving stage.
(B) Carr Gottstein Academic Center - the Admissions Office, Rural Alaska Natives Adult(RANA) Program, the lecture hall,
(D) Moseley Sports Center - swimming pool and basketball gymnasium; outdoor activities; health, fitness, and exercise programs. The Outdoor Program operates out of Moseley. The Consortium Library - Alaska Pacific University and the University of Alaska have a single shared library. Some other special opportunities for learning reside on the Alaska Pacific University campus: The United States Geological Survey Offices (USGS) and Advanced Mapping Laboratories, housed in (E) Gould Hall and Grace Hall, contain some of the most sophisticated computerized mapping equipment in the world, as well as advanced geological and environmental data analysis systems. USGS offers an extraordinary opportunity for Environmental Science and Environmental Planning and Policy students to intern in a world-class facility. The Anchorage Community Theater (ACT) puts on a series of plays and musicals in the Grant Hall theater each year. All the actors and stage crew are local adults and children. Students can intern with ACT in order to pursue an interest in stagecraft and community organization. Taking an internship with ACT is especially good for Education majors, who can learn from some of the best how to teach theater to children and involve whole families. |
