![]() Discover AnchorageAbout AnchorageAnchorage lies at the northernmost tip of Cook Inlet in Southcentral Alaska. Encompassing an area larger than the state of Connecticut, and located at the base of the magnificent Chugach Mountains, Anchorage boasts big, bold, and beautiful scenery, healthy wildlife populations, and an abundance of outdoor activities. ![]() You can enjoy Nordic and Alpine skiing, boating, camping, climbing, hiking, rafting, sledding, fishing, bicycling, softball, hockey, and wildlife viewing, and many other activities, without ever leaving Anchorage. And that’s just for starters! 260,000 people call Anchorage home. This is 41% of Alaska's entire 627,000 population. With such a large population base, Anchorage is able to offer the same cultural amenities of comparably-sized cities in the continental United States, including a wide array of national retailers, restaurants, outstanding hospitals, police and fire forces, fully developed roads and public transportation, and numerous condominiums, duplexes, single-family homes, and apartments – sorry, no igloos! (or penguins). Anchorage residents are young (average age is 32), well-educated, and relatively affluent. As such, the city has a lively arts scene, including the Anchorage Museum of History and Art, the Alaska Center for the Performing Arts, the Anchorage Symphony Orchestra, the Anchorage Concert Association, and the Anchorage Opera. With so many recreational choices, and with so much beauty, it's easy to understand why Anchoragites enjoy arguably the highest quality of living available in the United States. |
