Constitution Day Presentation
|
Full Story |
| |
Group: Emily Miner, Ari McGee-Vermont, Sara Perman, Alex Ronchetti, Megan Davis Constitution Week Final Project We aim to teach the general student public of APU about the United States constitution. This lesson will be presented in two stages. It is imperative that students learn the basics about the constitution, so this lesson has been set up to accommodate both the foundations and the principles. Stage 1 will be about the foundations of the constitution. These include ties to Ancient Greece, English parliament, and philosophers such as Hobbes and Locke during the enlightenment period. It will also include the founding fathers debates about forming the constitution, as well as more recent application of the bill of rights such as the Civil Rights movements. This portion of the presentation will be made in PowerPoint form as a lecture. Stage two of the constitution presentation will use a different to reach out to students. A handout of the Bill of Rights will be passed around the room, and a seminar about the amendments will ensue. We would like to bring this portion of the presentation to modern day and discuss opinions and concerns about the Bill of Rights. For instance, a discussion about the second Amendment- the right to bare arms- could potentially be a thought provoking discussion of the Bill of Rights relating to modern day issues. We plan to spend roughly 10-15 minutes on the PowerPoint presentation and another 20-25 minutes in discussion depending on the amount of discussion. We plan on wrapping up the presentation with a 5-10 minute speech on the Critical Thinking thought process we have put into the presentation. We would like to mention the use of both didactic and dialectic teaching methods, as well as the effectiveness of discussing and arguing throughout the seminar portion. |
