Outdoor Studies Department

APU's Outdoor Studies degree program offers more than the scenic beauty, wildlife, and challenges of Alaska's mountains, rivers, and oceans. Alaska is also where all of today's hottest intellectual, scientific, and practical outdoor recreation issues are happening.

What better place than Alaska to learn about people and wild places:Adam Berk skiing in Hatcher Pass not only natural history, but human history and culture, modern management issues, search and rescue, and current research tools?

Alaska Pacific University's Outdoor Studies program offers the complete package: the outdoor skills, the intellectual knowledge, and the practical application that ties it all together.

Our goal is to graduate students who are:

Shane Williams kayaking in Prince William Sound
  • Trained in natural history.
  • Versed in public land policy
  • Adept at recreation program planning and theory
  • Skilled in outdoor leadership
  • Ethically and professionally aware, and Employable within government or private business

There are lots of reasons why you should consider the Outdoor Studies Program at Alaska Pacific University.

APU and its Outdoor Studies degree program has an articulation agreement with the National Outdoor Leadership School, allowing transfer of credits between organizations.
