Overview
Student Financial Services (SFS), including Financial Aid and Student Accounts, will provide access and equal opportunity to services regardless of religion, creed, race, color, disability, national origin, or any other classification protected by law. We will endeavor to provide accurate, timely service while fostering an open, student-centered environment focused on ensuring that financial aid services are complementary to the mission and goals of the University. We will be responsive to the needs of the student, the University and the community.
The Financial Aid office administers funding and provides resources to assist students in meeting the cost of a University education. Costs include tuition, fees, room, board, books, transportation and personal expenses. Scholarships, grants, work-study and loans are the most common forms of financial aid funding. Financial aid offers are not mailed – all financial aid information is available via the student web portal. Sources of financial aid include institutional, federal (also called Title IV funding), state, private or other sources. Students must remain eligible to receive financial aid based on federal, state and institutional requirements.
For scholarship, grant and loan questions, contact Financial Aid at financialaid@alaskapacific.edu or 907-564-8341.
The Student Accounts office administers billing and payments. Student billing statements are not mailed – all student account information is available via the student web portal. Many forms of payment are accepted, including but not limited to lump sum payments, semester and annual payment plans, and third-party sponsorship. Student Accounts also handles billing holds and collection efforts.
For billing and payment questions contact Student Accounts at studentaccounts@alaskapacific.edu.
SFS is part of the Division of Student Enrollment Services (SES), which also includes the Office of Admissions and the Registrar’s Office. We work together to provide coordinated services and personalized attention in one campus location.
The student portal and email are the official methods of communication at APU. It is the student’s responsibility to check the portal and APU email for correspondence.
Statement of Confidentiality
All financial information provided to Student Financial Services is considered confidential. Individually identifiable records will not be released to anyone other than authorized individuals without written consent. All Student records are handled in accordance with our FERPA policy.
The Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA – 20 U.S.C. § 1232g; 34 CFR Part 99) is a Federal law that protects the privacy of student educational records. This law applies to students who are at least eighteen years old or who attend a post-secondary institution, even if they have not reached the age of eighteen. FERPA is intended to ensure students the right to inspect, review, and control access to their educational records maintained by the University.
For purposes of compliance with FERPA, the University considers all students independent. Before financial information can be released to parents or guardians, a FERPA release form signed by the student must be on file in the Registrar’s Office. Once filed, this request becomes a permanent part of the student’s record until the student instructs the University, in writing, that the release is no longer valid. Release forms are available upon request from the Office of the Registrar.
